The Victorian High Country 2021

In March 2023 we travelled down to Victoria to explore some of the Victorian High Country. We stayed at the Dargo River Inn in one of their cabins which was amazing. Having a base allowed us to spend more of the day travelling and given we were only there for a few days it really worked for us.

First day on the tracks we headed along Wonnangatta Road and crossed the Crooked River via the Kingwill Bridge but after talking to a couple of people camping on the river we doubled back and drove through the river along the track. The water levels were quite low as you can see in the below video.

From here we went to tick off one of the famous tracks, Billy Goat Bluff. It was time to lock in low range, drop the tyre pressures and start the climb. It is an amazing and scenic track and lived up to its famed status. Unfortunately, toward the top there was low laying fog.

We also came back the next day in an attempt to get some clearer pictures from the Pinnacles fire tower and lookout but again had no luck. We also explored the Zeka Spur track, got a little lost and eventually found our way back to Dargo.

The scenery is stunning and you can spend a long time exploring all the tracks. The steepness of some of the tracks cannot be truly understood from pictures alone and whilst the views are breath taking it is important to monitor weather and conditions as very easy tracks in the dry can become very difficult and even safely impassable.

We will definitely head back at some stage to explore more of the beautiful Victoria High Country.
